Morpeth Traditional Wednesday market wins an Award
The stalls were recently named most improved market in the National Market Traders Federation’s How Green Is Your Market? Awards.
Traders provide customers with biodegradable carrier bags or branded hessian bags for life, which they can re-use, and also recycle packaging materials. One trader re-uses empty milk containers, filling them with water and freezing them so that when covered with cloth they act as a chiller.
Local producers from the monthly Morpeth farmers’ market have been encouraged to trade from the Wednesday market as well.
Coun Alan Thompson, executive member responsible for markets at the county council, said: “I would like to say well done and offer my thanks to everyone who contributes to the success of this market.”
